One of the most effective acne masks you can make at home is a paste made from baking soda and water. Add water until the paste has a consistency of a thin dough. Clean the face, apply the paste, and allow this to dry. Use warm water to rinse off this mask and towel-dry the face. A honey mask will also work on acne. Whip together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon olive oil, and yolk from a raw egg into a creamy mixture, place onto your face, let sit for 20 mins, wash off with warm water. Honey has antibacterial properties that helps heal minor blemishes.

How to Care for Dull Aging Skin

Dull skin isn’t always related to age. Skin looks dull when dead skin cells build up on its surface. Antioxidants also help keep your skin looking young. They neutralize free radicals that attack and break down skin cells. They’re easy to remember which foods have them. Look for foods that are rich in color, like berries, oranges, lemons, and limes.

Once you’ve improved your diet, you want to make sure that your healthy skin shows. One way to boost your skin’s appearance is by exfoliating. Women who are aged 20-40 have young skin and the cell turnover is very fast—every 28 days. But in young skin there is more oil production. To keep pores free of dead skin and potential blemishes I recommend a very gentle exfoliant used in the shower while skin is soft. Do this up to 3 times per week.

Women who are 40 + have thinner, less oily skin with signs of wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. Exfoliation is a must because the cell turnover is slower and products cannot penetrate skin as well with the dead layer on top. Exfoliate with a super gentle exfoliating cream 2 times a week in the shower. Or exfoliate after nourishing mask that helps to loosen up dead skin first. Then exfoliate with mild micro dermabrazion cream using circular motion to remove dead layers.

For exfoliation I recommend my Chamomile Micro-Dermabrasion Cream. This product uses micronized marine salts to help enhance exfoliation and is perfect for sensitive skin. It is so gentle that it works for all ages and skin types. Men love this product as it doesn’t have a strong scent.

To rejuvenate skin after exfoliation, use a papaya & honey mask to condition skin. Crystallized honey provides many different benefits; it moisturizes skin, helps skin to stay young looking, keeps wrinkles at bay, and is an antioxidant which makes it capable to fight skin damage and aging. Make the mask with 3tbs blended papaya, 1/3 oatmeal and 1tb honey, mix and leave on face for 10mins. Wash off with warm water and go about your day.

How to Care for Dry Skin

Dry skin is unlike other any other skin type. With dry skin you’re not looking to reduce oil, but add moisture. Dry skin can be identified by almost invisible pores, a dull completion, red patches, less elasticity, and more visible lines. When exposed to drying factors, skin can crack, peel, or become itchy, irritated, or inflamed. If your skin is very dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially on the backs of your hands, arms, and legs.

Causes of dry skin are genes, aging, weather, tanning, medications and ingredients in soaps, cosmetics and cleaners. Fortunately, most dry skin comes from environmental factors that can be controlled. These include exposure to hot or cold weather with low humidity levels and excessive bathing.

A very common place for dry skin is the chest due to sun damage. The skin on the chest gets so dry because of the UV damage, there are no oil glands, and it typically gets forgotten in the skin care regimen. All of that can add up to prematurely old looking skin on a woman’s chest. So never stop your anti aging regimen at the jawline, include your neck and chest. Just like hands give away your real age, so does your neck. There is one way to prevent lines on your chest, and that is to start sleeping on your back! It will take time to get used to. And use Retinol at night and sunscreen during the daytime. One other way to remositurize dry chest skin is to exfoliate. But stay away from harsh grainy scrubs, use light acid peels and Retinol every other night. Retinol or Retin-A are great for your chest. However, since the chest has no oil glands, and skin there is thinner, use common since and don’t over treat the delicate skin.

Very dry flaky skin is often see on women 50 and older. We don’t have the same levels of estrogen we used to have. So we have to moisturize regularly. Middle-aged woman should apply cream, oil, lotion, or some sort of good lubricant to your skin every 12 hours. A good natural body oil that will mimic skin’s sebum, a natural oil/lubricant is Jojoba oil. Protect your skin from being dry in your younger years so you’ll have to do less work in your later years.

How to care for Dry Skin

Some tips for caring for dry skin are taking shorter baths and showers, using unscented mild soaps and cleaners, applying a rich moisturizer right after bathing, like Oridel Velvet Night Cream, using a humidifier(set at 45-55%), and wear gloves while cleaning. Also wear cotton and other natural fibers. Wool, synthetics, or other fabrics can be scratchy and irritating. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and eat omega-3 rich foods. The fatty acids can help build the skin’s natural oil-retaining barriers. Foods rich in omega-3 include cold-water fish (salmon, halibut, sardines), flax, walnuts, and safflower oil. Lastly keep away from strong facial cleansers, I use Oridel Face Cleaner With Sea Buckthorn. If you would like to help treat your dry skin with a mask, I would suggest you use an oil based mask. A great homemade mask would be ½ banana smashed, 1tb honey, and 2tb sour cream. Mix together and apply to skin, leave on for 10-20 minutes.

How to Care for Oily Skin

Oily skin is caused by over-active glands that produce a natural, healthy skin lubricant, sebum. When the skin produces too much sebum, it becomes heavy and thick in texture. Oily skin is not a bad thing since oily skin is less prone to wrinkles and other signs of aging because the oil locks moisture in.

Oily skin benefits from mud or clay masks. Clay is great for removing excess oil, deep cleaning your pores, and preventing and clearing up blackheads. But be aware that clay masks can be very drying so you should add a few drops of oil or honey to the clay mask and use a light moisturizer after. A great mask to make at home for dry skin and to avoid drying clay is 1 tsp avocado mashed with a few drops of ripe orange juice, add any oil u cook with. Mix. Then spread on your face and let sit for 20mins before washing off, or you can use just honey, just spread it all over your face for 30mins. It washes off very easily with water.

For everyday skin care avoid using harsh astringents like witch hazel, try to balance your oily skin with homeopathic liquid skin oils like a 50/50 mix of lime and cucumber juice. Strong astringents will do more harm then good but stimulating an overproduction of oil. As for a daily cleanser I recommend milk add some crushed orange peels and freeze, rub the frozen milk cube on your face to clean then rise off with warm water.

If your makeup is looking patchy after application due to oiliness use a little cucumber juice on the oily areas then dry and apply makeup, it should keep the oil at bay for the day, or rub oily areas with apple cider vinegar. Lastly misting your face with lavender water several times daily will help greatly.

There are some over the counter products I highly recommend because they help combat oily skin but don’t completely dry out skin. I like Oridel Glycolic Mosturizing Cream

Natural Skin Care

Many people don’t realize that humans have been making their own skin care products for centuries. If you think about it, there hasn’t always been these synthetic products that we’re use to. Only in the past 60 years have people started to turn toward chemicals which created the chemical world we currently live in. But your body takes more vitamins and nutrients that are naturally grown in the earth than it takes out of the man made synthetics. And a lot people don’t realize we’re completely surrounded by these nutrients in everyday plants, seeds, herbs, fruits and oils. Like with eating the fruits, plants, ect, the fresher the better, because fresh ingredients contain all the vitamins and enzymes that are damaged or destroyed under heat and processing. The same applies for skin care products, the fresher, natural ingredients allow the vitamins and enzymes to go directly into your skin more efficiently.

So we must ask ourselves “Is it better to use time tested, harder to find natural skin care products or the easier to find over the counter products you can pick up in your local drug or department store.”

A common misconception is all natural products are more expensive. But natural products can be surprisingly cost effective. Winter Skincare

During the winter season it is especially important to protect the skin on your body. Here are some skincare tips that I regularly tell my customers:

  • Protect skin on your body with dry brushing before shower. It stimulates circulation and exfoliates. Use a natural bristled brush or mitt and make brush stroked toward your heart to avoid the rupture of blood vessels or varicose veins.
  • Protect the skin on your face with layering, just like your body with layers of clothing. Always start with serums. Good ones can go down to the dermis layer of skin. Start with an antioxidant serum like Oridel Green Tea Supercharger, then apply a thicker textured lotion/cream on top of the serum and massage in with light strokes.

Remember, never stretch or pull skin while applying skin treatments, especially when putting on eye cream. To avoid damage, use your ring finger to apply creams and serums as it is weaker than your pointer finger. You don’t want to cause harm as you try to stay beautiful. The skin on your face is paper thin, and easily damaged!


  • Lactic acid or glycolic acid body lotions are ideal for winter. To eliminate dry winter skin on your body and feet, ask your Doctor for a prescription for “Lactic Acid 10% Lotion” (in my practice I offer a 12% glycolic acid body lotion as it’s more potent). Use it as a nighttime moisturizer.
