Dull skin isn’t always related to age. Skin looks dull when dead skin cells build up on its surface. These cells, which pile up in uneven patches on your skin, create a barrier that blocks the brightening, or glow, your blood vessels bring to your skin and can lead to rough and dull patches on your skin. Your skin can become dull because of dryness, damaged cells or slow cell turnover, which can all happen at any age and in any season. You may also experience it as a side effect of reduced oil production due to aging.
Cosmetic procedures are not the only remedy for unhealthy skin, nor are they the most effective. In fact, staying hydrated remains one of the simplest and least expensive ways to maintain skin health. A healthy diet can greatly improve your complexion, too. Recent studies are beginning to link choices in diet and overall skin health, and scientists believe that certain foods aggravate some skin conditions while others increase skin health. Healthy foods that are rich in nutrients strengthen skin cells and skin tissue, promoting a robust complexion.

Eating a well-balanced diet rich in valuable nutrients can improve not only your physical health but also your skin’s health. Remember, your skin is your largest organ. In general, eating a mix of colorful fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will help greatly with increasing your nutrients.
Vitamin A is the best nutrient for your skin, it strengthens your skin cells. It’s found in vegetables with beta carotene (the orange ones) and low fat dairy products. Antioxidants also help keep your skin looking young. They neutralize free radicals that attack and break down skin cells. They’re easy to remember which foods have them. Look for foods that are rich in color, like berries, oranges, lemons, and limes.
Once you’ve improved your diet, you want to make sure that your healthy skin shows. One way to boost your skin’s appearance is by exfoliating. Women who are aged 20-40 have young skin and the cell turnover is very fast—every 28 days. But in young skin there is more oil production. To keep pores free of dead skin and potential blemishes I recommend a very gentle exfoliant used in the shower while skin is soft. Do this up to 3 times per week.
Women who are 40 + have thinner, less oily skin with signs of wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. Exfoliation is a must because the cell turnover is slower and products cannot penetrate skin as well with the dead layer on top. Exfoliate with a super gentle exfoliating cream 2 times a week in the shower. Or exfoliate after nourishing mask that helps to loosen up dead skin first. Then exfoliate with mild micro dermabrazion cream using circular motion to remove dead layers.
For exfoliation I recommend my Chamomile Micro-Dermabrasion Cream. This product uses micronized marine salts to help enhance exfoliation and is perfect for sensitive skin. It is so gentle that it works for all ages and skin types. Men love this product as it doesn’t have a strong scent.
To rejuvenate skin after exfoliation, use a papaya & honey mask to condition skin. Crystallized honey provides many different benefits; it moisturizes skin, helps skin to stay young looking, keeps wrinkles at bay, and is an antioxidant which makes it capable to fight skin damage and aging. Make the mask with 3tbs blended papaya, 1/3 oatmeal and 1tb honey, mix and leave on face for 10mins. Wash off with warm water and go about your day.
